AS/NZS 3000:2018 has been drafted to replace AS/NZS 3000:2007 but the 2018 version is not cited in the ‘wiring rules’ regulations. A possible dual citation of both the 2007 and 2018 editions is being considered. But there is confusion among engineers, architects, and contractors as to what is the correct standard to use.

Our view

The 2018 standard must be the sole document cited in the regulations. Industry and WorkSafe drafted the document, and it should be recognized. Australia has automatic citation as soon as a standard is ratified by their relevant ministry so should we.

The immediate citation in the Electricity Safety Regulations of AS/NZS 3000:2018.
